It’s almost here!

Once upon a time, 26 years ago, a small spark of creativity became a shop. It was my dream to share original, hand-crafted art and designs with the world. Over the years, this little shop grew into a vibrant space where every piece had a story, and every creation carried the touch of something truly unique. From wearable art to home treasures, each item was made to bring colour and authenticity into someone’s life.

But as time went on, the world around my shop began to change. The rise of AI-generated images and the flood of mass-produced ‘custom’ designs filled markets, both online and off. Costs soared, and the joy of sending art across Australia and beyond became weighed down by skyrocketing postal fees and broken international delivery systems. Slowly, the space for originality and true creative expression became smaller and smaller. The creative arts industry, once a haven for innovation and individuality, has been battered by the same forces, leaving artists struggling to be seen and heard. The music industry too has endured relentless pressure, with streaming platforms and algorithm-driven consumption often drowning out unique voices and heartfelt creations.

Making the decision to close the online shop was not easy. This shop has been a part of my life, my identity, and my heart. Yet the winds of Makuru have whispered to me that it is time to turn the page. True art and design may be under threat, but they are not gone. They live on in those of us who will not stop creating, even as the world grows louder with manufactured uniformity.

This is not an end so much as a new path. I will continue to craft one-of-a-kind artworks and custom designs for those who seek something truly special, available by request and showcased in The Art Gallery. The shop may be closed, but my creative journey continues, with a renewed focus on the art I love most.
