Holistic Guidance in The Arts
The arts encompass far more than painting and paint brushes. Humanity has been creating art for millennia, exploring endless forms of expression. While technology has advanced significantly and introduced new mediums and media, the fundamental techniques and the core of learning always remain the same.
Acrylic paints and their variations are not just paints; they can be used in countless ways. Oil paints and their family also offer far more possibilities than traditional applications. Encaustics, one of the oldest mediums and techniques, continues to provide unique and timeless avenues for creative exploration.
Holistic guidance in the arts focuses on learning and discovery. Understanding that a brand name is not always the only option is an essential part of the journey. Over the decades, I have tested a wide range of materials, from well-known brands to lesser-known products. I never purchase substrates or mediums without first sampling and testing them myself. This ensures that whatever I use, I understand its full potential and limitations.
Learning in the arts must be hands-on. Placing a medium or media onto a substrate without proper guidance often leads to frustration. Dedicating a few hours each week allows you to explore the why and how of each technique, building confidence and skill.

I do not always follow labels that say “not to be used for” without testing and understanding the process first.
